AI Services for MSPs and VARs: From Customer Examples to Automation
Build customer AI services with StayCharted: train models for ticket routing, access requests and invoice coding, then integrate, review and maintain them.
What AI services can MSPs and VARs offer?
Managed service providers (MSPs) and value-added resellers (VARs) can help customers turn repeated decisions into a working AI classification service: prepare historical examples, train a model, measure its errors, connect it to a workflow and maintain it as the business changes.
StayCharted AI Model Trainer provides the model-training and categorization platform. The partner brings customer knowledge, data preparation, integration and operational support. The starting point is a task with defined answers—not a promise to automate every decision.
| Customer task | Examples to start with | What the model returns | What the partner delivers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Support ticket routing | Ticket text with reviewed categories and assignment groups | Suggested categories and groups, with confidence | Ticket-system integration, review rules and monitoring |
| SharePoint and file-access requests | File or request records with approved access decisions | Suggested access categories or groups | Policy checks, approval steps and a workflow that applies authorized changes |
| Invoice coding | Extracted invoice rows with approved GL accounts and cost centers | Suggested coding for new rows | Field preparation, finance review and integration |
| Product catalog classification | Product descriptions with the customer's category labels | Categories for new catalog records | Taxonomy cleanup and catalog updates |
| Inspection-photo categorization | Photos and optional notes with reviewed outcomes | Finding categories and confidence | Photo collection, review ownership and downstream actions |
The model categorizes supplied text or pictures. Document extraction, permission changes and writing results into another system belong to the surrounding workflow. Picture workflows require the Vision add-on.
How to deliver a first customer AI project
Start with a narrow outcome: “suggest the assignment group for new IT incidents,” rather than “bring AI into the service desk.” Agree who owns the answer and what happens when the model is wrong.
- Choose a repeatable task. Look for frequent work with a stable set of categories and reviewed historical decisions. Avoid beginning with a decision that no one can explain or consistently label.
- Prepare customer examples. Export the relevant fields and answers. Remove duplicates, outdated labels and unnecessary sensitive data. Give each category a clear definition.
- Train and inspect the results. StayCharted tests the model on held-out examples. Review accuracy by category and individual mistakes, not just the overall score. Check that the test resembles future work.
- Run a reviewed pilot. Compare model suggestions with the customer's decisions before enabling automatic downstream actions. Set the review cutoff around the cost of mistakes.
- Connect and maintain it. Return answers through files or an API integration. Assign responsibility for reviewing exceptions, correcting examples and evaluating replacement versions.
For example, an MSP could start with incidents that have already been assigned to Network, Identity or Endpoint teams. Train on the incident fields available at arrival—not resolution notes that will only exist later. The workflow sends those same fields for new incidents, then uses the suggested group and confidence to decide what needs review.
Connect model answers to the systems customers already use
An AI project becomes useful when its answers reach the place where people work. Partners can begin with a spreadsheet workflow and then connect the API when the process is established.
For SharePoint, Power Automate can send prepared file or request information to a model and route its answer through the customer's approval process. For service operations, an integration can send ticket fields and use the returned category to suggest an assignment group. Finance teams can review proposed codes before their existing system records them.
Keep the incoming fields consistent with training. A model trained on a title and description should receive both in the same format when it answers new requests. Protect integration credentials and design retry handling so one request does not trigger repeated downstream changes.
Low-confidence API answers also enter StayCharted's Review Queue on Essentials and Business. Choose where people review them to avoid duplicate review in both the source system and StayCharted. Confidence is a review signal, not a guarantee of correctness.

Can an MSP manage AI models for multiple customers?
Yes. StayCharted supports multiple workspaces under one account. A partner can use a dedicated workspace for each customer, with its own examples, models, membership and roles. Plans and allowances apply per workspace.
Use a separate account when complete database-schema isolation is required. Separate workspaces within an account and separate accounts are different boundaries; agree the appropriate arrangement with each customer's security owner.
Keep the customer's categories and examples specific to that customer. Do not treat one company's permission history as another company's access policy. Before uploading data, confirm who can access it, which fields are necessary and what retention rules apply. If the customer connects an external AI provider, include that provider's processing terms in the review.

Build an ongoing managed AI service around review and improvement
Deployment is one part of the service. Customers change their products, teams, categories and policies. A useful managed service keeps the model aligned with those changes.
| Service stage | Partner deliverable | Evidence to review with the customer |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery | Task scope, category definitions and data inventory | An agreed process owner and usable examples |
| Implementation | Trained model, evaluation and connected workflow | Test accuracy by category and reviewed pilot results |
| Ongoing support | Exception review, corrected examples and integration maintenance | Actual corrections, review share and workflow failures |
| Model updates | Retraining and comparison before publishing a replacement | Whether the new version improves the customer's important categories |
Track the time people actually spend reviewing, the share of items that need attention and mistakes found outside the review queue. Measure these in the customer's workflow rather than promising a fixed saving from a benchmark.
A VAR can pair platform selection with implementation services. An MSP can add ongoing review and maintenance within an agreed scope. Licensing, partner terms and service charges should be agreed separately; the platform alone does not establish a margin or a return on investment.
Start with one customer, one task and a measurable outcome
Bring a task the customer performs repeatedly, examples of past decisions and a person who can assess the results. StayCharted helps turn those examples into a model; the partner makes that model part of a dependable business process.
For a first discussion, describe the customer workflow, approximate volume, available examples, target system and data-governance requirements. That is enough to scope a practical starting point.

Common questions about AI services for MSPs and VARs
What AI services can an MSP offer customers?
An MSP can offer use-case discovery, training-data preparation, model evaluation, workflow integration and ongoing model maintenance. Practical classification projects include ticket routing, access-request triage, invoice coding and product categorization.
How can a VAR help customers adopt AI?
A value-added reseller can pair platform selection with a scoped implementation: define the task, prepare examples, evaluate a trained model and connect its answers to the customer’s existing systems.
Do MSPs need data scientists to use StayCharted?
StayCharted provides no-code model training and evaluation. Partners still need someone who understands the customer’s categories and can review errors. API and workflow integrations require appropriate technical skills.
Can an MSP manage models for several customers?
Yes. Multiple workspaces under one account can hold customer-specific examples and models with workspace membership and roles. Plans and allowances apply per workspace. Use separate accounts when complete database-schema isolation is required.
Does StayCharted change SharePoint permissions automatically?
StayCharted returns model suggestions and confidence. A partner-built workflow applies authorized changes after the customer’s policy checks and any required approval. A prediction alone is not permission to grant access.
How should an MSP measure an AI pilot?
Review held-out test results by category, then measure corrections, review share, errors and time spent in the actual workflow. Results on new customer work can differ from test results; confidence scores do not guarantee correctness.
